IDENTIFYING DANGEROUS SNAKES IN ASIA
Here are a few dangerous snakes in Africa and how to
identify them.

COMMON COBRA
( Naja Naja )

Location: Found all over Asia
Identification: Grey to brown in color. Spreads a big hood
characteristic of cobras, when threatened. Sometimes the hood is
patterned but not always. Average length is about 1.5 m.
Characteristics: Not a snake that is aggressive and will only
bite if no way of escape are possible. An extremely venomous snake
that is often found in human dwellings.
GREEN TREE PIT VIPER
(Trimeresurus gramineus)

Location: India, Burma,
Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia
Identification: Green snake with yellowish face. Average
length is about 0.6m. Found mostly in trees of dense forests and
plantations.
Characteristics: Not particularly strong venom but is considered
dangerous due to the fact that most bites occur on the upper part of
the body
HORNED DESERT VIPER
( Cerastes cerastes )

Location: Found in
Africa, Arabia, Iraq and Iran. Likes desert areas.
Identification: A small viper of about 0.6m in length on
average. A sharp scale over each eye gives it a horned look. Pale
buff color.
Characteristics: Likes to hide by burying itself in the sand
which makes it very difficult to spot. Hunts mostly at night and
bask in the sun during the day. In this regard it is very true to
its viper nature.
