IDENTIFYING DANGEROUS SNAKES IN AFRICA

BOOMSLANG( Dispholidus Typus )
Snake_identification-boomslang

Location: Found over sub Saharan Africa.
Identification: Color of green to brown. Very large eyes to the head and length is about 0.8m on average. Thin body and is almost always seen in trees. Hence the name Boomslang meaning "tree snake". Very hard to spot in trees because of its color which makes this bugger a well camouflages snake indeed.
Characteristics
: A very venomous snake and potentially very dangerous. Seldom bites and it seems very shy to use that potent venom. Most recorded victims are handlers.

GABOON VIPER ( Bitis gabonica )
Snake_identification_gaboon_viper

Location: Mostly found in the rain forest and equatorial regions.
Identification:
Pinkish to brown with a backside series of elongated yellowish or light brown spots, connected by hourglass-shaped markings on each side. It has a dark brown stripe behind each eye. A big snake and the typical length is about 1.6m and can be to over 2 m. One of the largest venomous snakes. The head is the typical triangular shape of vipers. A very large head mind you. They have the largest recorded fangs at 5 centimeters. Now that is long. EAT YOUR HEART OUT DRACULA!
Characteristics: Not an aggressive snake. Fortunately for us. But make no mistake, this fatty will bite when stepped on or threatened. Its venom is said to be weak but it does not matter as it injects a hell of a lot. And with those long fangs the venom is sure to be injected deeply. Would make a nice Sunday lunch to those who fancy snake as a delicacy. Yummy.

GREEN MAMBA (Dendraspis angusticeps)
Snake_identification_green_mamba

Location: Located mostly all over Africa. A very wide spread snake.
Identification: A green snake very long and lean. Average length is about 1.8m. Can be longer.
Characteristic: A very feared snake just like its cousin the black mamba with highly toxic venom. Found mostly trees, brush and low hanging branches.
